Dear Student,

As the implications of COVID-19 continue to evolve, we are providing an update on the actions we are taking to create a safe environment for all Greenwich College students. This email outlines helpful advice on how to protect yourself from possible infection.

SENSIBLE HYGIENE PRECAUTIONS

  • We encourage you to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds - especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer which is available across all college campuses. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with tissues which have been made available across all campuses when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid handshakes and hugging, and take reasonable hygiene precautions in public places and on public transportation.

IN THE CLASSROOM – SOCIAL DISTANCING

  • Avoid unnecessary physical contact with others, such as handshakes or hugs.
  • Be aware of your own personal space and avoid crowding in the classroom and in other common areas.
  • Give other students and staff plenty of space in areas such as the elevators, kitchen and reception. Use alternatives when available, such as taking the stairs rather than the elevator.
  • Avoid handling the belongings of other students, for example their food, their pens and their mobile phones.

IF YOU ARE UNWELL

  • If you feel unwell with flu-like symptoms you must not come to class or onto the college campus. We strongly encourage you to visit a doctor for testing.
  • Learn more about the symptoms of COVID-19 here.
  • If you are advised by a doctor to remain in isolation, you must not attend classes or come onto the campus. After your isolation period, please ask for a letter from your doctor to confirm that you are healthy and able to return to class.
  • If you discover at any time that you have contracted COVID-19, you must immediately advise the college by email or phone so we can take necessary steps to protect other people who you may have come into contact with.

IF SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU IS UNWELL

  • If you discover that you have had direct contact with a person who has been confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, you must immediately advise the college.
  • Subject to advice from Australian Government authorities, you may be required to self-quarantine and/or seek medical advice.
  • If someone close to you is unwell and has been instructed by a doctor to self-quarantine, please practice sensible hygiene precautions.
  • Current advice from the Australian Government is that you are not required to self-quarantine if someone close to you is in quarantine (but this advice may be subject to change).

RETURNING FROM COUNTRIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19

  • If you have recently travelled to areas strongly affected by a COVID-19 outbreak, you may not be permitted to return to our campus until you have been in quarantine for the required period.
  • You may be asked by the college to obtain a doctor certificate confirming that you are healthy before commencing or returning to the college.
  • Before attending classes, please contact Student Services to discuss your situation if you have travelled internationally recently or are planning international travel so that they may provide you with advice regarding your studies.

CHANGES OS CAMPUS

  • Our campuses are open and fully operational at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and the college will follow the Australian Government’s advice.
  • Some planned student activities may not take place as advertised to reduce the risk of possible infection.
  • Additional signage has been placed around the campus to advise students of best hygiene and health practice.
